It is a two-player strategy board game performed on a checkered surface with 64 squares organized in an 88 grid on which two players compete for victory. Each player starts with 16 pieces, including a king, queen, rooks, knights, bishops, and eight pawns. The game is played with a king and a queen as the starting pieces. To checkmate an opponent's King, one must place it in an unavoidable state of danger, such that it cannot escape capture.
